C&C 3 Tiberium Wars – C&C Labs (2024)

C&C 3 Tiberium Wars – C&C Labs (1) Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, the latest installment of the Command & Conquer franchise, returns the series back to its roots in the Tiberian universe. It is the year 2047; for nearly a decade The Brotherhood of Nod has been relatively quiet. Most of the GDI high command is under the impression that the power of Nod is waning. But one General is suspicious and wants to do some reconnaissance: that's where you come, in commander.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars returns to the original C&C storyline, following successful games in the Tiberian universe Command and Conquer: "Tiberian Dawn", C&C: Tiberian Sun, and its expansion Firestorm. The existence of C&C 3 was rumored many times, and possible art was leaked out over the years. The game was finally released in late March of 2007.

Etymology

  • Tiberium: Mysterious substance discovered a few years before 1995 near the Tiber River in Italy.
  • Tiberian: Of or relating to the substance Tiberium, including its molecular makeup, effects on the surrounding environment, or history.

Tiberium Wars is the name of the war that is fought between GDI and Nod in Command & Conquer 3, thus lending to the game's title. Tiberium Wars is actually the third war over Tiberium. The first and second Tiberium wars occurred during Tiberian Dawn (C&C1) and Tiberian Sun, respectively.

The StorylineAdapted from the PC-DVD product description

In 2047, Tiberium has blanketed the Earth, which is now divided into zones based on the level of Tiberium infestation. Pristine Blue Zones represent 20% of the planet's surface and are the last refuge of the civilized world. Partially habitable Yellow Zones make up 50% of the planet's surface; most of the world's population lives in these war-torn and ecologically ravaged areas. The remaining 30% of the planet is uninhabitable, a Tiberium wasteland swept by violent Ion Storms. Red Zones are like the surface of an Alien planet.

After a decade of relative stability and amidst rumors of Kane's death, much of the GDI high command believes that the power of the Brotherhood of Nod is finally waning. But Kane - the enigmatic leader of the Brootherhood - is in fact alive, and he has different plans. Indeed, this is just the calm before the storm.

March, 2047. A massive nuclear fireball explodes high in the night sky, taking down the GDI space station Philadelphia and marking the dramatic beginning to the Third Tiberium War.

The infamous Kane has returned to lead the Brotherhood of Nod in a massive global assault on the Global Defense Initiative and the few remaining Blue zones left on the planet. Only you can stop him. The fate of humanity – and the planet – is in your hands.

The Campaigns

GDI forces on patrol in the heart of a Red Zone.

In C&C 3, there is one campaign for each side, though the campaigns for Nod and GDI are significantly longer than the Scrin one. The Nod and GDI campaigns occur concurrently; that is, there is not one 'correct' or 'actual' story, since both campaigns show two perspectives of the same issues. The Scrin campaign is unlocked once the Nod and GDI campaigns have been completed and picks up the story from when the Scrin invade Earth. There is no word from EA on the veracity of this campaign; it could be a depiction of what actually occurs next in the story, or it could simply be an addition to the game that shows off the Scrin side.

In the campaign, you take the role of lead commander for a faction. Before each mission, you are briefed in full motion video by the other leaders of the side (the Scrin briefings are computer generated). For GDI, General Jack Granger (Michael Ironside) and Director Redmon Boyle (Billy Dee Williams) are your two main briefers. Lt. Kirce James (Jennifer Morrison) and Lt. Sandra Telfair (Grace Park) also provide intelligence information for the missions. For the Nod side, everything flows from the man known only as Kane (Joe Kucan) and his second-in-command Kilian Qatar (Tricia Helfer). A Nod subordinate known as Ajay (Josh Holloway) provides background info for the missions.
